The unit has done well with help of famous visiting consultants viz. Dr. T.N. Sanath Kumar, Dr. Vasanth Kumar, Dr. Kamalakannan, Dr. Ehilarasi, Dr. Asokan, Dr. Premkumar and Dr. Duraiarasan with admissions increasing every year (totalling 1200/year) and the general OP seen by the duty pediatricians has also increased considerably.

The number of out patient service has increased to nearly 2500 / per month. There is an immunization clinic which is run through out the day and all through the year, where cold chain is maintained meticulously. The surgical cases are managed by the skillful scalpel of Dr. S. Balagopal with excellent anasthetic assistance being provided by Dr. Srinivasan. The number of children getting operated has crossed 500 / year.

Inauguration of the Paediatric Pulmonology

Cerebral palsy children are getting the benefit from the hands of Dr. Venkataramanan, our Orthopaetic Surgeon who is an expert in soft tissue release, tendon transfers and joint replacements. Plastic surgical facility is taken care of by Dr. Jayaraman.

Fortnightly CME programmes are held covering topics of practical importance between 2.30 and 3.30 pm on alternate Thursdays which are attended by Pediatricians and General Practitioners in and around Saligramam, Virugambakkam, Valasaravakkam and Vadapalani.

With the able guidance and generous nature of our Managing Director, Dr. C.P. Sreekumar, plans are already on the anvil for the creation of eight bedded PICU -with all the state of art facilities for managing pediatric emergencies including ventilation.

Deluxe wards with private telephone and television, a good reference Library with internet facility will be available by the end of this year (2008) which will make the Pediatric division of Sooriya Hospital eligible for admitting candidates desirous of taking National Board Examinations in Pediatrics for which we have applied to the National Board. Blue Prints are already available for the creation of a pediatric pulmonology sub division of Sooriya Hospital by June 2008 which will be ably managed by Dr. V.V. Varadarajan and Dr. Vasanthkumar (both will take care of the Asthma Clinic and Spirometry) with the guidance of the famous pulmonologist Dr. Venugopal who already runs a cystic Fibrosis laboratory in the premises, apart from heading the department of Pulmonology. Fibreoptic and rigid bronchoscopies will be ably managed by Dr. Vijayasekaran and Dr. Balakumar - respectively.

Last but not the least, services of well trained staff nurses who are experts in practical pediatric nursing like starting IV lines, NG aspiration and catheterisation under the guidance of sisters. Mary and Suganthy are available round the clock which has won the appreciation and patronage of parents of sick children admitted in the hospital.

As there is a nursing school attached to Sooriya Hospital - on going programmes for training of nurses in the paediatric subspeciality is being contemplated. 24 hrs laboratory and radiology facilities are available (including CT Scan) in the premises.
